Títol: Gene Set Analysis for Genetic Association Studies

Resum:
Genetic association studies explore differences in genetic variability between diseased and non-diseased individuals. Common markers of genetic variability are single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) which are changes in just one base in the genome. The usual statistical approach in genetic epidemiology study is a marginal univariate analysis, where each SNP is analyzed separately for association with the phenotype. However, the large number of genotyped variants requires large-scale multiple testing corrections that tends to yield low power in the detection of genetic causing variants. An alternative to single SNP analysis is Gene-Set Analysis (GSA) that refers to those statistical methods that explore association at a gene or pathway level. In this talk, some methods of GSA will be presented.
